Application Challenge
Kronenbourg is a major European beer brewer. Too much oxygen in their final products resulted in excessive foam. A level control product was needed that could properly control the degassing process.Model
Magnetrol Echotel® 915P two-wire level switchSolution
Kronenbourg decided to add three small vessels for degassing the oxygen and the foam above the beer. The degassing process is controlled by Echotel 915P ultrasonic level switches and Definox valves. The Echotel contact switches sense the correct product level, ignoring the foam layer, enabling automated control. Modifications to the brewer’s process were made to allow these Model 915P units to measure the liquid/foam interface.Benefit
The process modifications increased the quality and taste of the beer, while increasing production efficiency and reducing waste. Total reduction of oxygen varies from product to product; in the Gold beer, oxygen was reduced about 30%.Comments
Tuning forks were tried, but could not reliably detect the liquid/foam interface. The 915P has allowed Kronenbourg to achieve improvements in product quality while reducing waste. For more information: Magnetrol International N.V.
