KEY Note:
Regarding the installations used in food industry, there is not that much difference to other industrial production lines. However, the environment is very different! Daily washing down with hot water/steam (often at high pressure), contamination of the lubricant with aggressive substances as fruit juice, milk, sea-water .....
Since the component equipment used in food plants is mainly the same as in other industries, the original recommendations are often the same as “normal” environments.
When considering changing to food grade (H1)-lubricants, it is important to check the current grade in use as well as the OEM recommendation in case they are different for a good reason !
Lets give an example: Perhaps the OEM recommended conventional gear oil didn’t work properly because of problems with high levels of water contamination and so an engine oil was used as a ‘problem solver’ some years ago if this story is not known, and the choice of H1 lubricant is made only with reference to the original OEM recommendation, problems may arise!
